World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a digital equivalent to Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's festivities include new collectable items, gold, and other goodies.
A recently released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of this in-game holiday. The video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter (a Titan-forged giant), Tauren traditions of reflection and gratitude, and the modern-day commercialization by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.
Metzen the Reindeer's Misadventures:
No Winter Veil lore is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of kidnappings, including incidents involving pirates, Dark Iron Dwarves, and even the Grinch! The video concludes with a humorous nod to this, featuring Metzen's thanks in Thrall's voice (a fitting tribute, as Metzen famously voiced the Orc Shaman).
A Continuing Collaboration:
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths. Blizzard's recent collaborations with content creators also include Taliesin & Evitel's guides for returning players and Hurricane's cinematic trailers.
Current Winter Veil Festivities:
Players have until January 5th, 2024, to participate in the Feast of Winter Veil. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift!
