Baldur's Gate 3, a game that continues to captivate players months after its release, has left many wondering about the future of the franchise. With Larian Studios moving on to other projects, Hasbro now holds the reins. Fortunately, we won't have to wait long for news.
Hasbro's SVP of digital games, Dan Ayoub, recently spoke with IGN at the Game Developers Conference, revealing that the company has significant interest in the Baldur's Gate franchise and is actively developing future plans. Ayoub hinted at upcoming announcements, stating that Hasbro will soon share details regarding the franchise's future direction.
While Ayoub remained tight-lipped about specifics – whether this involves a full-fledged Baldur's Gate 4 or a different approach, perhaps a crossover similar to the previous Magic: The Gathering collaboration – he confirmed his desire to eventually create a Baldur's Gate 4, acknowledging that such an undertaking would require considerable time and planning. He emphasized Hasbro's measured approach, highlighting their intention to carefully consider various options before making any major announcements.
Ayoub also acknowledged the immense pressure to deliver a high-quality successor to Baldur's Gate 3, a pressure that extends to other Dungeons & Dragons-related projects under Hasbro's umbrella. He expressed confidence in Hasbro's ability to meet this challenge, stating that the high bar set by previous successes encourages creative innovation and pushes development teams to exceed expectations.
Ayoub's comments covered various topics beyond Baldur's Gate, including Magic: The Gathering, the partnership with Saber Interactive, and Hasbro's broader game strategy. A full interview covering these topics will be released next week.
