Warzone Update: Lobby Crashing Bug Impacts Players

Call of Duty: Warzone players are experiencing game freezes and crashes during loading screens, sometimes resulting in undeserved penalties. While a permanent fix is still under development, developers have implemented a temporary solution.

This recent issue follows a series of challenges for Warzone in 2024, including server outages and ongoing concerns about cheating and bugs. The current loading screen problem, reported on January 6th, prompted an investigation by Raven Software.

Although the underlying bug remains unfixed (as of January 9th, according to their Trello board), a crucial update has been deployed. Skill Rating (SR) penalties and timeouts are now temporarily suspended for players disconnecting before joining Ranked matches. This addresses player frustration over unfair penalties caused by the unintentional crashes. Penalties will still apply for players leaving matches in progress.

While this mitigates the immediate impact, the persistent bugs, even after a major January 2025 update, remain a concern for players. The ongoing situation highlights the challenges faced by the development team in maintaining a stable and fair gaming experience. Players eagerly await a complete resolution to these recurring issues.
