Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials, citing their absence from this year's Consumer Electronics Show. While this statement seems self-evident, it's noteworthy for being one of the few times Nintendo has directly addressed product leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread online discussion.
Nintendo's comment, made in response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated that the images and videos of Genki's replica are "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, further underscoring the unofficial nature of the leaked materials.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown, even to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai.
Tsai did offer additional insights, claiming the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails, and that they will function as mouse controls—a feature previously suggested by other sources.
Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing
Nintendo previously stated that the Switch successor would be revealed during fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. Retail availability is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
