Evercade expands its Super Pocket handheld line with Atari and Technos editions. These new handhelds will feature classic games from the respective platforms. A limited-edition wood-grain Atari Super Pocket, with only 2600 units produced, is also on the way.
Game preservation remains a contentious topic, but Evercade provides a legitimate alternative to expensive secondhand purchases or emulation. Building on the success of its Capcom and Taito editions, Evercade's October 2024 release will include Atari and Technos versions.
A Retro Revival
The prevalence of retro emulation in handheld gaming makes official releases like Evercade's Super Pocket line particularly welcome. While some might view the limited 2600 wood-grain Atari edition as a marketing ploy (unless it's genuinely wood-grain), Evercade has generally earned a positive reputation.
The Super Pocket's compatibility with existing Evercade cartridges allows users to easily transport their retro game libraries. Games can be easily switched between the handheld and a main console.
The new Super Pocket editions launch in October 2024.
