Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

by Mia Mar 06,2025

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, prioritizing PlayStation 5 titles.

This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, reflects Sony's focus on its newer console. The PlayStation Blog post clarifies that PS4 games will only be offered occasionally in the future for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and the Games Catalog. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will be playable until their removal from the catalog's monthly refresh.

Sony emphasizes its commitment to evolving PlayStation Plus, assuring continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company anticipates adding new PS5 titles monthly.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony notes a player shift towards PS5 titles. The future placement of PS4 games within the PS Plus Classics Catalog (currently housing PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed, with further announcements expected closer to the date.
