Sony has announced an update regarding the limited-time classic PlayStation console themes for PS5, covering PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. These popular themes, which have been enjoyed by many PS5 users, will be unavailable starting January 31, 2025. However, Sony assures fans that these nostalgic designs will return in the coming months. The company expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic response to the themes, stating they are working to bring them back.
While the news of the themes' temporary removal might be disappointing, a subsequent announcement revealed that Sony currently has no plans to release additional console themes beyond the existing four. This decision, while understandable, has drawn some fan disappointment, as PS5 theme customization options remain limited compared to previous PlayStation generations.
The limited-time themes, released to commemorate PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024, offered a nostalgic touch to the PS5 home screen and menus. Each theme incorporated visual elements and sounds from its respective console generation: the PS1 theme featured the classic console's design, the PS2 theme replicated its menu shapes, the PS3 theme used its signature wave background, and the PS4 theme similarly included its wave patterns. All themes also incorporated the distinctive boot-up sounds of each console.
