Whispers about the PlayStation 5 Pro have been growing louder throughout 2024, fueled by leaks and speculation. Gamescom 2024, however, marked a significant shift, with developers openly discussing the upcoming console.

Developers Prepare for PS5 Pro Launch
The anticipation surrounding the PS5 Pro intensified at Gamescom 2024. Reports suggest developers are actively adapting their release schedules to coincide with the new console's launch. Wccftech's Alessio Palumbo reported that an anonymous developer, without prompting, confirmed receiving PS5 Pro specifications and predicted significantly improved Unreal Engine 5 performance compared to the standard PS5.
This corroborates a previous report from Multiplayer, an Italian gaming site, which mentioned a developer delaying a game release to align with the rumored PS5 Pro launch. Palumbo notes that these are likely different developers, and that the studio he spoke with was not a major one, suggesting widespread access to PS5 Pro specs amongst developers.
PS5 Pro: Imminent Release, Analyst Suggests
Further bolstering the speculation, analyst William R. Aguilar hinted on X in July that Sony is likely to announce the PS5 Pro later this year, possibly during a September 2024 State of Play. This timing, he suggests, is crucial to avoid impacting current PS5 sales.
This aligns with the PlayStation 4 Pro's 2016 release strategy: announced September 7th and launched November 10th. Palumbo points out that if Sony follows a similar pattern, an official announcement is imminent.
