Starbreeze Entertainment announces an offline mode for Payday 3, launching later this month. However, this new mode requires an online connection – a significant point of contention following player backlash over the game's initial lack of offline play.
Payday 3, a sequel to the popular 2011 heist-themed FPS, is renowned for its stealth mechanics and diverse weaponry, allowing players diverse mission approaches. The game's enhanced stealth features in Payday 3 further expand player agency. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update introduces a new heist and addresses player concerns.
The June 27th update introduces a beta version of the offline mode, aimed at enhancing solo gameplay. While initially requiring an online connection, future updates will enable complete offline functionality. This new mode eliminates the need for solo players to use the matchmaking system – a major complaint following the game's launch. The omission of dedicated offline solo play, alongside other features like The Safehouse, drew considerable criticism.
Payday 3's Offline Mode: A Work in Progress
Starbreeze confirms ongoing improvements to the solo mode, aiming for a fulfilling solo experience. Almir Listo, Head of Community and Global Brand Director, stated that the mode will be refined as development continues. This update also includes a new heist, free items, and various improvements, such as a new LMG, three new masks, and the ability to name custom loadouts.
Payday 3's launch faced challenges, including server issues and criticism over its limited initial content (eight heists). While future updates will add more heists, some, like "Syntax Error," will be paid DLC. The developer issued an apology for the game's initial state and has since released multiple updates.
