Path of Exile 2's Atlas offers four major endgame events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. Rituals, drawing inspiration from the original Path of Exile's Ritual League, are a revived seasonal mechanic. This guide details Ritual event initiation, mechanics, the Ritual Passive Skill Tree, the Pinnacle boss ("The King in the Mists"), and the unique Tribute and Favour reward system.
Understanding PoE 2 Rituals and Altars
Atlas map nodes hosting guaranteed endgame events are marked with specific icons. Ritual Altars are indicated by a red pentagram icon with a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, inserted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Upon entering a map with a Ritual, several Altars will appear. Each map features a shared, random modifier impacting the event's mechanics and enemies. Modifiers might introduce massive rat swarms or pools of life-draining blood.
Locate an Altar, examine its Modifiers, and interact to unleash a wave of enemies. Remain within the designated circle; venturing into the shadows ends the event without reward. Successfully completing all Rituals on a map marks it as complete.
The King in the Mists: Ritual Pinnacle Boss
"An Audience With The King," a unique Ritual currency item, unlocks access to The Crux Of Nothingness, where The King in the Mists resides. Use this currency at your Realmgate on the Atlas map.
The King in the Mists' mechanics mirror his campaign counterpart. Practice is available in Act 1 Cruel difficulty's Freythorn zone. Victory yields two Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique PoE 2 items, powerful currencies, and Omen items.
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Atlas Passive Skill Tree's Ritual section modifies the event for increased rewards. It reduces Tribute requirements, improves rewards, and boosts unique currency drop rates.
Access it via the Atlas Map's top-left button; the Ritual tree is in the bottom right, identifiable by its red color and five prongs. Eight Notable nodes and eight King in the Mists difficulty-increasing nodes are present. Each King in the Mists victory provides two skill points, necessitating increased difficulty for each new Notable node.
Notable Node Prioritization: Begin with "From The Mists," "Spreading Darkness," and "Ominous Portents" for optimal reward increases. Then, pursue "Tempting Offers" and "He Approaches" for enhanced Omen and "An Audience With The King" chances. The table below summarizes Notable nodes and their effects:
PoE 2 Ritual Event Rewards
Tribute and Favours
Completed Rituals award Tribute, a temporary currency exchanged for randomized Favours. More Altars completed equate to more Tribute and unlocked Favours. Early Favours are typically Magic items or low-level currencies, progressing to Rare gear and high-tier currencies with more Ritual completions. "An Audience With The King" is exclusively obtained via Favours.
Omen items, powerful consumables enhancing other currency items, are a potential Favour reward. Their effects are triggered upon use. Examples include Omens of Annulment and Alchemy, which refine the effects of their respective orbs. Omens are highly valuable, either for use or trading.
Beyond the Tribute/Favour system, Ritual enemies drop high-tier currencies like Exalted and Vaal Orbs. The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a Ritual-exclusive pool.
