Palworld Dev Grants Day Off for Monster Hunter Wilds Launch After 'Mysterious' Staff Notes

by Olivia Apr 18,2025

The developer of Palworld, Japanese studio Pocketpair, has announced a unique gesture to its employees. In a social media post, the company revealed that numerous staff members reported feeling "unwell" on February 28, the release date of Monster Hunter Wilds. In response, Pocketpair declared the day a holiday for its employees, allowing them to enjoy the new game. Despite this, the studio assured fans that updates on their own games would not be affected by this decision.

Monster Hunter Wilds has made a significant impact since its launch, reaching an impressive milestone of 1 million concurrent players on Steam. This places it among the top 10 most-played games on the platform, surpassing titles like Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring. However, the game has received a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, prompting Capcom to release official guidance addressing PC performance issues. Additionally, Capcom has teased the first title update for Monster Hunter Wilds, which will introduce an endgame social hub for players.

The launch of Monster Hunter Wilds has had a notable effect globally, with a particular impact in Japan. One indie developer humorously noted on social media that they hadn't sold a single game on Steam since Monster Hunter Wilds was released. This isn't the first time Pocketpair has shown such generosity; they previously gave their staff a day off to play FromSoftware's Elden Ring in 2022.

To aid players in their Monster Hunter Wilds journey, various resources are available. These include guides on what the game doesn't explicitly tell you, a comprehensive overview of all 14 weapon types, a detailed walkthrough, a multiplayer guide for playing with friends, and instructions on how to transfer your character from the open beta. IGN's review of Monster Hunter Wilds awarded it an 8/10, praising the game for refining the series' mechanics and offering enjoyable combat, though it noted a lack of significant challenge.
