Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice
Emerging circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer a novel functionality: acting as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this mode by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.
The evidence, shared by Famiboards user LiC, stems from Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. LiC's previous data leaks have fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors. This latest revelation involves polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles"—a term typically associated with the bottom of computer mice—intended "to stick to game console handles."
Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These numbers haven't been found in public component databases, implying they are unreleased products. The reported 90 x 90mm size suggests the tape could cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, possibly requiring trimming during assembly. The legitimacy of this information, however, remains unconfirmed.
Not a First for Handheld Consoles
While unconventional, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already features this capability with its right controller, transforming into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic piece to facilitate smoother surface movement. The Legion GO also boasts magnetic rails for controller attachment, a feature rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity offers a potential glimpse into the Switch 2's design.
