Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored for Marvel Rivals Release

by Hazel Feb 20,2025

Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

This question was put to Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. The response was encouraging for Switch fans: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. Whenever we can deliver a high-quality experience on the Switch 2, we're open to it. The original Switch couldn't provide the performance our game requires. If the Switch 2 meets that standard, we'll consider a release."

PlayThe Nintendo Switch 2 was officially revealed last month. While specifics are scarce, it's expected to be a more powerful console with enhanced capabilities. Interestingly, it seems to incorporate mouse-like controls, potentially offering a more PC-like shooter experience, though the exact implementation remains unclear.

A release date for the Switch 2 is yet to be announced, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive reviews. Our 8/10 review praised the game for its strong position within the hero shooter genre, stating it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
