NieR: Automata offers a vast world to explore, filled with main story missions and numerous side quests. Many players initially miss content during their first playthrough. Fortunately, Chapter Select allows you to revisit earlier parts of the game after completing the main storyline. This guide explains how to unlock and utilize this crucial feature.

Unlocking Chapter Select
To unlock Chapter Select, you must see the credits after completing all three playthroughs and choosing an ending during the final confrontation of the third playthrough. While referred to as playthroughs, these are often called chapters by the community, as each focuses on a specific part of the overall narrative. After viewing the credits of a playthrough, save your game. Loading that save will initiate the next section, featuring a different character. The final playthrough involves switching between multiple characters; completing it unlocks Chapter Select for that save file.
How Chapter Select Works
Access Chapter Select in two ways:
- From the main menu of your save file when loading the game.
- From any access point within the game world.
This menu lets you select any chapter to replay, carrying over your weapons, level, and items. You can also choose your character, provided that chapter featured multiple playable characters.
Important Considerations:
Completed side quests cannot be repeated. Always save at an access point before switching chapters to ensure progress is retained. Failing to do so results in the loss of any experience points and items acquired during that chapter.
