Expand Your Stardew Valley Farm with Multiple Pets!
One of the joys of Stardew Valley farming is the diverse range of animals you can keep. This guide explains how to acquire multiple pets, expanding your farm's furry (or scaly) family beyond just one companion.
Unlocking the Multi-Pet Potential:
Initially, Stardew Valley limited players to a single pet. However, the 1.6 update changed this, allowing for multiple animal companions. To unlock this feature:
-
Maximize Pet Friendship: Ensure your existing pet's friendship meter is full. This requires daily attention: fill their water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them (indicated by a heart bubble). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" menu.
-
Marnie's Mail: Once maximum friendship is achieved, Marnie will send a message informing you of additional pet adoption opportunities. If you skipped adopting a pet in Year 1, the message arrives at the start of Year 2.
Adopting Additional Pets:
After receiving Marnie's message, visit her ranch (9:00 am - 4:00 pm, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Select the "Adopt Pets" option. You'll find a selection of 12 pet licenses:
Pet License | Cost |
---|---|
Brown Cat | 40,000g |
Grey Cat | 40,000g |
Orange Cat | 40,000g |
White Cat | 40,000g |
Black Cat | 40,000g |
Brown Dog w/ Blue Collar | 40,000g |
Brown Dog (Shepherd) | 40,000g |
Brown Dog w/ Red Collar | 40,000g |
Black and White Dog w/ Red Bandana | 40,000g |
Dark Brown Dog | 40,000g |
Green Turtle | 60,000g |
Purple Turtle | 500,000g |
Essential Pet Supplies:
Before adopting, visit Robin's shop to build Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are crucial for maintaining pet friendship and preventing them from running away.
Marnie also sells optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees.
With these steps, you can create a thriving menagerie on your Stardew Valley farm! Check out The Escapist for more Stardew Valley guides and news.
