Monster Hunter Wilds: How Long to Beat? IGN Staff Playtimes Revealed

Monster Hunter Wilds has finally arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Following in the footsteps of Monster Hunter World and Iceborne, this latest installment from Capcom raises the question: just how long does it take to complete? IGN staff members share their experiences, detailing their playtime, priorities, and post-game adventures.

Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games

Tom completed the main story in just under 15 hours. This marks the end of Low Rank, but High Rank awaits with numerous side quests and challenging hunts. He spent another 15 hours completing most of these quests and reaching the true endgame, unlocking all systems and crafting options available at launch, including the Artian weapon system. An additional five hours allowed him to acquire his desired weapon and armor sets, though he acknowledges much more remains to explore.

Casey DeFreitas - Deputy Editor, Guides

Casey finished the final High Rank story mission at around 40 hours, approximately 22 hours after completing Low Rank. Due to guide creation, her playtime isn't entirely precise. She focused on progressing through the story, minimizing grinding and optional hunts in Low Rank. While she maintained a similar approach in High Rank, she engaged in more optional hunts with friends, a necessity for unlocking further story missions. She estimates that a more thorough playthrough, including optimized gear creation, would have taken closer to 60 hours. She still has endemic life to collect, fishing, side missions, and plans for further endgame activities, including talisman upgrades and Artian weapon experimentation.

Simon Cardy - Senior Editorial Producer

Simon finished the main story in just under 16 hours, a surprisingly short playtime compared to his Monster Hunter World experience. He found the battles relatively easy, attributing this to the game's streamlined mechanics, making it accessible to newcomers. He notes the consistent story cutscene/monster battle pacing, which, while appreciated for its swift progression, might leave some core Monster Hunter elements for the post-game.

Jada Griffin - Community Lead

Jada reached the initial credits in approximately 20 hours, including optional quests and exploration. She spent time exploring the world, hunting endemic life, customizing menus, and finding optimal camp locations. Completing all High Rank missions and side quests took her an additional 15 hours. She has logged nearly 70 hours overall, enjoying post-game activities such as hunting with friends, decoration farming, and monster crown hunting. She eagerly anticipates future title updates adding new monsters.

Ronny Barrier - Producer, Guides

Ronny saw the first credits after about 20 hours, prioritizing the main story with minimal grinding. He experimented with various weapons, extending his playtime. Currently at 65 hours, he views the initial credits as a story midpoint, with extensive post-game content remaining, including new monsters and crafting opportunities. He expresses a particular dislike for the Congalala monster.

The varied playtimes highlight the flexibility of Monster Hunter Wilds, catering to both focused story completionists and those who prefer extensive exploration and endgame grinding.
