Hashino, when discussing the studio's future plans, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game, potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding the possibility of Metaphor: ReFantazio becoming a franchise, Hashino confirmed there are no current plans for a sequel. His focus remains on completing the current project, which he originally conceived as a third major RPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become a flagship title for Atlus.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next project. However, an anime adaptation is being considered. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already achieved remarkable success for Atlus, boasting a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961, surpassing the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
