Marvel's Spider-Man 2: PC Release and PSN Requirement
January 30, 2025: PC Launch Date Confirmed
The official release date for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC is January 30th, 2025. Developed and optimized by Nixxes Software in collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games, the PC version promises a top-tier experience.
Nixxes Software, renowned for its PlayStation-to-PC ports (Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima), has ensured ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical options for optimal PC performance. While DualSense features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse support and ultrawide compatibility are key highlights.
"Collaborating with Insomniac and Marvel Games to bring the Spider-Man experience to PC has been fantastic," stated Nixxes' Community Manager, Julian Huijbregts. Insomniac's Mike Fitzgerald added that the PC port will feel "right at home" on the platform.
All post-launch PS5 content will be included, featuring twelve new suits (including Symbiote Suit styles), New Game+, Ultimate Levels, new time-of-day options, post-game achievements, enhanced Photo Mode, and more for Digital Deluxe Edition owners. However, no new story content will be added.
PSN Account Requirement: A Point of Contention
A significant drawback is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, mirroring a trend in recent PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions without PSN access, raising concerns about accessibility.
This policy, absent in earlier Spider-Man PC releases, has sparked debate among players. While Sony previously reversed a similar PSN requirement for Helldivers 2, the issue remains a point of contention for titles like God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, and others.
Despite this, the PC release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 marks a significant step for Sony in expanding its reach beyond PlayStation consoles. Game8 awarded the PS5 version an 88, praising it as a superb sequel.
