Marvel SNAP: The Best Moonstone Deck

Quick Links

Moonstone, Marvel Snap's newest Ongoing card, copies the effects of your 1-, 2-, and 3-cost Ongoing cards in her lane—a powerful ability making her a potent addition to your deck. Think of her as a supercharged Mystique. However, building a successful deck around this high-risk, high-reward card (often called "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP") requires careful strategy.

After extensive testing, two deck builds stand out as optimal for Moonstone: Patriot and Tribunal strategies. This guide details how to build and optimize both, helping you harness Moonstone's full potential. We'll also offer a brief review to help you decide if she's right for your collection.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone excels as a supporting card, rather than the sole win condition. A reliable setup pairs her with a Patriot-Ultron deck. Focus on leveraging one or two key Ongoing effects rather than over-relying on her ability.

To build this deck, combine Moonstone, Patriot, and Ultron with: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Set up board buffs using Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
  • Utilize one lane for Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (ideally in that order).
  • Play Ultron in the final round to maximize power across all locations.
  • Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird provide backup power if needed.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

For a more exciting, though less consistent, strategy, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. This build uses Moonstone as a primary win condition. Include: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

Ideal Play Line:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
  2. Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man in her lane.
  3. In the final round, distribute power across lanes using The Living Tribunal.

Psylocke and Sera provide cost reduction, allowing earlier plays. Magik extends the match, enabling Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Captain America and Iron Lad offer backup power. While many predicted a Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal meta, Super Skrull has proven a significant counter.

How to Counter Moonstone

Super Skrull effectively counters Moonstone. Since her release, Super Skrull has become a popular counter-pick. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also neutralize her abilities.

Moonstone's weakness lies in her reliance on her own lane. Without protection (like Invisible Woman), Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue easily shut down her lane. Super Skrull in another lane also disrupts the strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is a worthwhile addition for several reasons: 1) Her ability will become more valuable as more synergistic Ongoing cards are released; 2) She's in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She offers nostalgic, high-impact gameplay. If you enjoy powerful combo plays, Moonstone is a valuable acquisition.
