Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed a system dropping players four divisions mid-season, every 45 days.
The community's criticism highlighted the demotivating effect of frequent rank resets on players striving for higher rankings. In response, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will maintain their existing ranks and scores from the first half of the season. End-of-season resets will still occur, resulting in a six-division drop.
Other planned updates remain unaffected. The addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track, aligning with the developer's commitment to two new characters per three-month season. Rewards for Gold rank and above remain unchanged, including a free Invisible Woman costume for Gold rank players and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above. Additional end-of-season rewards will be introduced for Gold rank and higher. While balance adjustments were previously announced, details are yet to be revealed.
Marvel Rivals emphasized its commitment to community feedback, highlighting the rapid response to player concerns. The developer expressed gratitude for player engagement and support, reiterating its dedication to creating the best possible game experience.
The mid-season update is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
