Marvel Brings Back Baddie From 2008's Iron Man for MCU Vision Quest Series

by Jack Mar 03,2025

Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is set to resurrect a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man. Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive nearly two decades ago. His appearance in Iron Man was limited to the opening scenes, where he was ultimately betrayed by Obadiah Stane.

This marks a return to the MCU for al-Wazar, similar to Samuel Sterns' reappearance in Captain America: Brave New World. While Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, has yet to announce a release date, al-Wazar's inclusion promises an intriguing development.

Initially portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist group, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly expanded in Phase 4. The revelation that his group was connected to the Ten Rings, a detail subtly hinted at earlier, was fully explored in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This retroactive connection suggests a potential link between Vision Quest and Shang-Chi.

However, the series might also delve into less explored corners of the MCU, similar to Deadpool & Wolverine's approach to the former Fox Marvel universe. The return of James Spader as Ultron, also recently reported, further fuels speculation about the show's unexpected direction. Details remain scarce, but Vision Quest promises a surprising and potentially unconventional addition to the MCU.
