Tantalus Media, renowned for its work on Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been unveiled as the developer behind the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the 3DS, saw Luigi battling ghosts to recover the fragments of the Dark Moon and defeat King Boo. Nintendo announced the Switch remake last September, confirming its June 27th release date in March. A recent trailer and the game's file size were revealed shortly before the developer's identity was confirmed by VGC.

Tantalus Media takes the reins from Next Level Games, the original developers of Luigi's Mansion 2. Their portfolio also includes the Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Mania and contributions to the Age of Empires Definitive Editions. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD has garnered positive early reviews, aligning with other successful Nintendo remasters. However, similar to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, pre-order issues have surfaced, with Walmart cancelling some orders.

The late reveal of Tantalus Media follows a pattern established by Nintendo, as seen with the recent Super Mario RPG remaster. The developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey remains undisclosed, suggesting a continued trend of withholding this information until close to launch. This strategic approach to revealing development teams adds a layer of intrigue to the anticipation surrounding Nintendo's releases.
