Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Reaches Impressive Sales Milestone

by Noah Feb 02,2025

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the remastered version of the cult classic action game, has reportedly surpassed 200,000 units sold across all platforms since its September 2024 release. This achievement comes despite initial technical hiccups and controversy surrounding censorship. The news was shared via a tweet from developer Dragami Games, highlighting the game's unexpected success.

Developed by Dragami Games (the original was by Grasshopper Manufacture), RePOP features quality-of-life improvements and a significant visual upgrade. The game retains the core gameplay of its predecessor: a fast-paced, hack-and-slash experience where players control Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling hordes of zombies. This style of gameplay draws comparisons to titles like Bayonetta.

While the original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012, achieved significantly higher sales (over one million units), RePOP's performance is still noteworthy. The original's success was partly attributed to the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda (Grasshopper Manufacture) and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy).

The strong sales of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP suggest a positive trend for remasters of less mainstream titles. This is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title receiving a modern update. Whether RePOP's success will lead to additional content or a sequel remains to be seen.
