Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Expected This Thursday
A reliable leaker claims the Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 announcement strongly suggests a first-half 2025 release.
The Switch 2's existence has been widely anticipated, with reports of mass production commencing in late September or early October 2024. Numerous hardware leaks have further fueled speculation. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025.
NateTheHate, a known and reputable leaker, reported the January 16th reveal date on his January 13th podcast, citing undisclosed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of making major announcements on Thursdays – mirroring the original Switch reveal in October 2016. Tom Warren of The Verge corroborated this information.
Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement
While a pre-reveal teaser on social media, similar to the original Switch announcement, remains a possibility, the extensive leaks surrounding the Switch 2 may leave few surprises for dedicated fans. The sheer volume of leaked information has even prompted a rare acknowledgment from Nintendo regarding a replica console.
Reported Switch 2 specifications include a slightly larger form factor (270 x 116 x 14mm) than the Switch OLED, an 8-inch LCD screen, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons. The right Joy-Con reportedly features an additional "C" button, the function of which remains unclear but may relate to a speculated mouse-like pointer function.
Launch Titles Remain Unclear
Unlike the console's specifications, the Switch 2's launch lineup remains largely unknown. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario have been confirmed, neither is expected to be a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo is likely to include at least one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
