Jet Set Radio Remake Rumors Resurface with Leaked Screenshots

Alleged Leaks Surface for the Upcoming Jet Set Radio Remake

Rumors are swirling around the internet regarding leaked images and video footage from Sega's highly anticipated Jet Set Radio remake. The remake, announced last December as part of Sega's broader initiative to revitalize classic titles, has been shrouded in secrecy since its initial reveal at the 2023 Game Awards.

A prominent Sega leaker, Midori (who has since deleted their social media accounts), has been a source of much of the circulating information. According to previous reports attributed to Midori, Sega is developing both a reboot (a live service game) and a standalone remake of Jet Set Radio. The leaked materials reportedly pertain to the latter.

Twitter user MSKAZZY69 shared four screenshots purportedly from a development build of the Jet Set Radio remake, claiming Midori as the source. The images showcase what appears to be an in-game map and several gameplay scenes. MSKAZZY69 further described the game as a "complete remake of the original, totally separate from the new one," and an "open-world remake." This aligns with Midori's earlier descriptions of the remake featuring graffiti, shooting mechanics, and open-world exploration with a new storyline.

Separately, a YouTube video emerged showing alleged gameplay footage. The video's art style and graphics are consistent with the leaked screenshots, showcasing updated, more realistic character models and environments. The footage depicts protagonist Beat engaging in graffiti art, performing skating maneuvers, and navigating the game's Tokyo setting.

The Authenticity Question

While the leaked materials are attributed to Midori, their recent online absence raises questions about their authenticity. Until official confirmation from Sega, any leaked content should be treated with caution. The remake's release is still projected to be several years away, with a tentative release window of 2026 or later.

Regardless of the leaks' veracity, the purported footage has generated considerable excitement among fans. Sega's apparent commitment to reviving classic franchises extends beyond Jet Set Radio, with remakes of Alex Kidd, House of the Dead, and other titles also rumored to be in development. However, until Sega provides official confirmation and releases official game footage, all reports should be viewed skeptically.
