Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Decorated in Surprise Update
Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's iconic Tower social space has received an unexpected cosmetic overhaul, featuring festive lights and decorations. This surprise update, seemingly unintentional, has captivated players and sparked speculation about its origins. The original Destiny, though still accessible, largely faded into the background after Destiny 2's 2017 launch.
While Destiny 2 has thrived with continuous updates and expansions, nostalgia for the original game persists among many fans. Bungie has consistently integrated legacy content into Destiny 2, including classic raids and exotic weapons. However, this recent Tower update in Destiny 1 came as a complete shock.
On January 5th, players began reporting the unusual decorations within the Tower. Ghost-shaped lights, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning, adorned the area. However, unlike previous events, there was no snow, and the banners differed. Crucially, no in-game prompts or quests accompanied the changes, adding to the mystery.
A Forgotten Event Resurfaces?
The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled fan theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed to a cancelled event, "Days of the Dawning," planned for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event bear a striking resemblance to the current Tower decorations, suggesting a possible connection. The theory proposes that a placeholder future date for removal was mistakenly programmed, leading to the surprise reappearance.
As of this writing, Bungie remains silent on the matter. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This accidental update, therefore, offers a fleeting opportunity for players to experience an unexpected piece of Destiny 1 history before Bungie likely removes it.
