Hearthstone's upcoming Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, launching January 21st, boasts a record-breaking 49 new cards. This expansion, a crossover with Blizzard's StarCraft universe, introduces class and multi-class cards representing the Zerg, Protoss, and Terran factions.
The Mini-Set's card distribution includes three cards per Hearthstone class. StarCraft factions each contribute five cards usable by specific classes, including one Legendary card per faction. A single neutral Legendary card, Grunty, completes the set. Several cards have already been previewed, with more reveals planned before the launch date.
Factional Synergies:
- Zerg (Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, Warlock): Focuses on summoning large numbers of Zerglings and leveraging Hydralisks for swarm-based damage.
- Protoss (Druid, Mage, Priest, Rogue): Centers around temporary and permanent mana manipulation to deploy powerful cards like the Carrier.
- Terran (Paladin, Shaman, Warrior): Integrates the Starship mechanic from The Great Dark Beyond, introducing new Starship Pieces and strategies for deploying multiple Starships, including a Mech-type Starship.
Pricing and Acquisition:
The expanded card count results in a higher price point. A complete Mini-Set costs $20 (or 2500 gold), while the all-Golden version is priced at $80 (or 12,000 gold). Individual faction packs (Protoss, Terran, or Zerg) are available for $10 (or 1200 gold). Cards can also be obtained through The Great Dark Beyond packs.
Launch Events:
To celebrate the launch, Hearthstone is hosting two streamed events:
- StarCast (January 23, 10 AM PST): Features StarCraft legends TrumpSC and Day9 showcasing the new cards.
- HearthCraft (January 24, 9 AM PST): Showcases Hearthstone community creators competing in faction-based matches and mini-games.
Viewers of these Twitch streams will receive two standard and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs.
