The release of Trailer 2 for *Grand Theft Auto VI* (GTA 6) has sent the long-running GTA 6 mapping project into overdrive. Garza, a key member of the project and overseer of the GTA 6 Mapping Discord server, told IGN, "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The community, which currently boasts 370 members and is poised to surpass 400, is buzzing with excitement as they delve into the wealth of new details provided by Trailer 2.
Garza emphasized the impact of the new trailer, stating, "It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year. We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started." The project, which began following the massive leaks in September 2022, aims to create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible. Prior to Trailer 2, the mapping efforts were based on those leaks and December 2023's Trailer 1.
The latest version of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now outdated. The flood of new information from Trailer 2 is helping the team to craft a much more detailed and accurate map. DuPz0r shared the latest version on Twitter, stating:

Alongside confirming plot details and characters, Rockstar released 70 new GTA 6 screenshots and revealed information about the explorable locations within the state of Leonida, which is GTA 6's take on Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (GTA 6's version of Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state's northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing Trailer 2 to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, and are working to match these fictional spaces to their real-world counterparts. Once complete, DuPz0r will release an updated map, which fans eagerly anticipate as a comprehensive preview of what to expect from GTA 6 upon its release in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage in the meantime, the mapping project volunteers will continue their efforts. Only when GTA 6 is officially released will they be able to compare their fan-made map to the actual game and assess its accuracy.

However, the project faces the looming threat of legal action from Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. In March, a modder who created a playable recreation of the GTA 6 map in GTA 5 ceased work after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. The mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He added, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
As the mapping project continues, fans can stay updated with all the latest details and fan theories surrounding GTA 6, including insights gleaned from Trailer 2.
