Rome boasts Italy's largest video game museum! GAMM, the Game Museum, is now open to the public in Piazza della Repubblica. The museum is the creation of Marco Accordi Rickards, a writer, journalist, professor, and CEO of Vigamus.
Rickards is deeply committed to preserving and celebrating video game history. He describes GAMM as an immersive experience blending history, technology, and interactive gameplay. GAMM builds upon the success of Vigamus, another Roman gaming museum that has attracted over two million visitors since 2012.
The new museum spans 700 square meters across two floors, showcasing three distinct thematic areas. Before we explore those, take a quick peek at the museum!
Inside GAMM: A Gamer's Paradise
GAMMDOME: This interactive digital space features historical gaming artifacts – consoles, donations, and more – alongside interactive stations. The design follows a "4 E Concept": Experience, Exhibition, Education, and Entertainment.
PARC (Path of Arcadia): Step back in time to the golden age of arcade games! Experience classic coin-op games from the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s.
HIP (Historical Playground): This area delves into game mechanics, design, and structure. It's a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of gaming.
