Forza Horizon 4's Digital Sunset: A Farewell to the Open Road
On December 15, 2024, Forza Horizon 4 will be removed from major digital stores, marking the end of its digital availability. This beloved open-world racing game, launched in 2018 and set in a fictionalized UK, has amassed over 24 million players (as of November 2020). While initially slated for continued availability, expiring licenses necessitate its removal from Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass.
The game's popularity is undeniable, solidifying its place as a top Xbox title of the eighth generation. However, the realities of licensing agreements, particularly concerning music and car brands, often lead to delistings in the racing game genre, as seen previously with Forza Horizon 3.
Before the December delisting, all DLC will be removed from sale on June 25th. Until then, players can still purchase the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions. The final in-game series, Series 77, runs from July 25th to August 22nd. While the playlist screen will become inaccessible after this, the Forza Events screen will remain active, offering daily and weekly challenges and Forzathon Live events.
Existing owners (digital or physical) can continue playing without interruption. Game Pass subscribers with active, paid subscriptions who own DLC will receive a game token soon to ensure continued access.
To celebrate (or mourn!), Steam currently offers an 80% discount, with an Xbox Store sale planned for August 14th. This is your last chance to acquire this critically acclaimed racing experience before it disappears from digital shelves.
