Dynasty Warriors: Origins lacks a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. While sprinting offers decent speed, traversing large battlefields to rescue officers quickly is often necessary for victory.
This is where your mount becomes invaluable. Summonable at any time, in the overworld or during battles, your horse allows for rapid movement and even enables mounted combat for faster hit-and-run tactics. Here's how to acquire your first horse, improve its abilities, and switch between different mounts.
How To Unlock Your First Steed in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your initial mount is a free gift! During Chapter 1, after completing the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld on your route to the Battle Of Guangzong. He'll be northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp, standing beside his horse. Simply speak to him to receive your steed; it's automatically equipped.
Summon your horse by pressing down on the left joystick (console) or V (keyboard).
How To Enhance Your Mount in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your horse gains experience points (XP) based on completed missions, even if you don't actively ride it. However, skirmishes don't award XP. Missions (indicated by a red diamond with a soldier icon) offer medium-length battles ideal for earning XP. The XP earned depends on battle duration and how much you ride and charge into enemies. Leveling up unlocks unique buffs for each horse at specific intervals.
How To Change Mounts in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
While your first horse is automatically equipped, additional mounts are available. Access the Battle Preparation menu; the mount selection is the last option on the left. Each horse boasts unique advantages; some are inherently faster or more effective. Acquiring new mounts requires maximizing the peace level of a region. A new horse awaits as a reward at a nearby waypoint once this is achieved.
