Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with updates to be shared gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This marks the first update since May 2024, following the announcements of the passing of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, key figures in the Dragon Quest franchise. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division was also previously announced.
Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates had sparked fan concerns about the game's status. However, Horii's statement allays these fears, confirming Dragon Quest XII's continued development.
Announced during the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The recent success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, surpassing 2 million copies sold, further underscores Square Enix's commitment to the series.
