Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

The game constantly warns against engaging Lu Bu, but victory is possible with the right strategy. This guide details how to defeat this formidable foe.

Should You Fight Lu Bu?

While challenging, defeating Lu Bu offers significant rewards: bragging rights, story progression (in Shu or Wei campaigns), and the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd (obtained by defeating him in the post-game). Be warned, it's a lengthy battle!

Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu

Before the fight, equip a multi-hit sword for staggering, along with Battle Arts that are quick, wide-ranging, and low-Bravery cost (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Essential accessories include those boosting health and defense (like Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell). A weapon with a Bravery-granting Perfect Evade skill is highly beneficial.

Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. Evade his attacks (most have limited AOE, except for Red Hare's jump attack). When he pauses, unleash a Battle Art, then retreat. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts, escalating the challenge.

Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu

On foot, Lu Bu is incredibly aggressive. He'll frequently zip across the battlefield with a red aura, becoming temporarily unstaggerable. Evade his charges (three in a set), especially his grab attack (easily avoided).

His most dangerous move is a three-arrow volley (orange aura). Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to interrupt it; close-range arts are fatal. Keep your Musou gauge ready for invincibility frames during critical moments. Focus on juggling Lu Bu to quickly recharge Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude. Maintain close proximity for better reaction time, and remember, evasion is key.

Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage

Once Lu Bu's health is significantly reduced, he enters Musou Rage, becoming unstaggerable and unleashing relentless attacks. The priority is depleting his Fortitude before his Musou attack. Use all available resources: Musou attacks (when close), Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes. Failing to break his Fortitude before his Musou attack forces a restart of this phase.

Conclusion

By following this strategy and mastering evasion, you can overcome Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
