The wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the cusp of releasing its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting at an imminent announcement – potentially "any day now." This exciting news emerged during a recent interview with Business Insider.
While specifics regarding the game's title and its connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham confirmed the development team is diligently working on the project. He described the game as an experience where players will "get their hands on the stick and control the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria."

Willingham, himself a Critical Role star and co-founder alongside fellow voice actors Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Matthew Mercer, and others, highlighted the game's place within the broader Critical Role universe. While it will exist alongside other projects, it won't necessarily be a direct tie-in. In a December 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Willingham revealed the team was in "active pursuit" of a video game spinoff, noting they were "starting to come to the end of a long road that we’ve been undertaking for the last couple of years."
Initial expectations pointed towards an announcement before the end of 2024 or early 2025. Now, several months into 2025, the announcement appears truly imminent. Willingham further elaborated in the Rolling Stone interview, stating that past collaborations served as "little toe dips in the pool" to gauge the interactive space, acknowledging the current industry shifts and the team's strategy to navigate them successfully.
While a release date remains undisclosed, the anticipation is palpable. In the meantime, fans can look forward to further details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
