Basic Information
Elytra are unique, rare items that allow players to glide. They significantly enhance exploration, especially when combined with fireworks. While folded, they resemble a cloak; deployed, they’re magnificent wings. Naturally, they're found only in the End after defeating the Ender Dragon, located within ships near End Cities. However, alternative methods exist for other game modes, detailed below.
How to Get Elytra in Minecraft (Survival Mode)
Preparing for Battle
Before venturing to the End, thorough preparation is crucial. Diamond or Netherite armor, ideally enchanted for protection, is essential. A well-enchanted sword and bow (consider Infinity or Power for the bow) are vital for combating the Ender Dragon. Stock up on arrows or crossbow bolts, and don't forget fireworks for extra firepower. Potions of regeneration, strength, and slow falling will prove invaluable. Bring plenty of food (golden apples are highly recommended) and blocks to aid in reaching End Crystals. Finally, a carved pumpkin will protect you from aggressive Endermen.
Activating the Portal to the End
To activate the End portal, you need 12 Eyes of Ender. Each Eye requires Blaze Powder (from Blaze Rods dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses) and an Ender Pearl (dropped by Endermen). Crafting an Eye of Ender is straightforward (see image below).
Finding the Stronghold
Use Eyes of Ender to locate the Stronghold. Throw an Eye; it will fly towards the Stronghold, indicating its general direction. Once near, dig down and navigate the Stronghold's labyrinthine passages. Locate the portal room and place the Eyes into the frames. Prepare for battle!
Battle with the Dragon
Destroy the End Crystals first to prevent the Ender Dragon from regenerating health. Use a bow and arrow or melee combat. Once the crystals are gone, focus on the Dragon itself. After defeating it, a portal to the End Gateway will appear.
Inside the Ship
In the End Cities, locate a ship. Inside, you'll find the Elytra in an Item Frame. Be wary of Shulkers!
Creative Mode
In Creative Mode, simply open your inventory, search for "Elytra," and drag it into your inventory.
Commands
With cheats enabled, use the command /give @s minecraft:elytra in the chat.
How to Fly with Elytra
Equip the Elytra in the chestplate slot. Jump from a height, and press Space to glide. Use W, A, S, and D to control direction.
Fireworks Boost
Craft fireworks and use them to boost your flight.
