Unveiling the Mystery: April 2025 Launch
Set in a Belle Epoque France-inspired fantasy world, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will launch on April 24, 2025. This announcement, part of Xbox's Developer Direct, highlighted the game's innovative approach to classic turn-based combat. Even better, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one!
Pre-Order Options and Platform Availability
Pre-orders are open! The standard edition is priced at $44.99, while the Deluxe Edition is $59.99 on the Xbox Store. Steam and PS5 offer a 10% discount, bringing the prices down to $44.99 and $53.99 respectively. Note that the PS5 discount requires a PlayStation Plus subscription and is valid until the game's release. The Steam discount ends May 2, 2025. The game is currently wishlisted on the Epic Games Store.
Meet the New Team Members: Monoco and Esquie
The full cast of seven playable characters (plus one dedicated to exploration) has been revealed. Joining the previously announced Gustave, Lune, Maelle, Sciel, Renoir, and Verso are Monoco and Esquie.
Monoco, a Gestral, is described as "friendly and bloodthirsty," transforming into defeated enemies to utilize their powers. Interestingly, Gestrals are immune to the Paintress's influence.
Esquie, considered the oldest and strongest being, focuses on exploration, unlocking new areas and abilities by collecting special stones.
Innovative Turn-Based Combat and Deep Customization
Sandfall Interactive aims for more than just visual appeal. Their innovative reactive turn-based system blends real-time elements, allowing players to parry and dodge for increased damage or reduced incoming damage. The difficulty settings adjust the timing windows for these actions, catering to various skill levels.
Deep character customization is key. Each character boasts unique mechanics and skill trees. Lune, for example, uses "Stain" to enhance her abilities. "Pictos," equipment modifiers, evolve into permanent Luminas (passive effects) after four battles, adding further customization options. This allows for hundreds of diverse builds.
With its blend of classic turn-based strategy and real-time reflexes, along with extensive character customization, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 promises a unique and engaging RPG experience.
