Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. This closure affects all global platforms.
Asian Servers Remain Operational
The good news is that the Asian versions (Taiwan and South Korea) will continue operation. While Nexon plans updates for the Asian servers, details remain undisclosed. The possibility of a global relaunch is also unconfirmed.
Shutdown Timing and Reasons
The exact date of the global shutdown hasn't been revealed, though the game is still available on the Google Play Store.
The decision stems from challenges faced since launch. Players expressed significant dissatisfaction with the game's heavy automation, leading to repetitive gameplay. Technical issues, including optimization problems on some Android devices and numerous bugs, further contributed to the game's underperformance. Nexon's revised strategy prioritizes the PC version in Korea and Taiwan, aiming for a more faithful rendition of the original game concept.
