Bend Studio: Future Projects Still Planned Despite Cancellation

by Joshua Mar 13,2025

Bend Studio, the developer behind Days Gone, remains committed to creating exciting new projects, despite Sony's recent cancellation of their unannounced live-service game. This cancellation, along with another at Bluepoint Games (reportedly a live-service God of War title), follows a challenging period for Sony's live-service initiatives. While Helldivers 2 achieved phenomenal success, other ventures, notably Concord, experienced disastrous launches and rapid closures. Sony acknowledges these setbacks, citing internal organizational issues and poor release timing as contributing factors. Bend Studio's community manager reassured fans, stating their intention to continue developing "cool shit." The studio's last release was Days Gone in 2019 (with a PC port in 2021). Sony's financial reports highlight lessons learned from both the successes and failures of their live-service strategy, emphasizing the need for earlier user testing and improved internal coordination. Despite these challenges, Sony remains invested in the live-service model, with several titles, including Marathon, Horizon Online, and Fairgame$, still under development.
