Ananta Unveiled: Project Mugen Officially Rebranded

NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta. Initially announced at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence, promising further details on December 5th.

The Meaning Behind the Name Change

While the developers haven't commented on the reason for the name change, "Ananta" translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, echoing the meaning of the original title, "Mugen." The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency. The gaming community's reaction is mixed, but relief prevails that the project hasn't been cancelled.

Comparisons and Contrasts

Ananta's sleek new trailer is generating comparisons with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. However, the lack of gameplay footage in Ananta's trailer gives Neverness to Everness a potential advantage in the eyes of some players, although Ananta is considered visually more striking.

A Mysterious Social Media Overhaul

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all their previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This unexpected move has sparked considerable confusion among fans.

Gameplay and Characters

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator battling paranormal threats. Key characters include Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila. Further gameplay details are available on the official website.
