Russian Checkers 8×8
Movement and Capture Rules:
- White makes the first move
- Checkers move exclusively on dark squares
- Capturing is mandatory when possible
- Checkers can capture both forward and backward
- Kings move and capture along any diagonal square
- The Turkish strike rule applies (an opponent's checker can be taken only once per move)
- When multiple capture options exist, players may choose any path (not necessarily the longest)
- Upon reaching the opponent's back row, a checker becomes a king and may immediately use king movement rules if the position allows.
Draw Conditions:
- If a player holds checkers and three (or more) kings against a single opposing king but fails to capture it within 15 moves after the material imbalance is established
- When both players have kings and no material changes occur (no captures or promotions) for: 30 moves in 4- and 5-piece endgames, or 60 moves in 6- and 7-piece endgames
- If a player with three pieces (any combination of kings and checkers) cannot capture a lone opponent's king positioned on the "high road" within 5 moves
- When only kings are moved for 15 consecutive moves, with no checker movements or captures
- If the same board position repeats three or more times with the same player to move
International Checkers 10×10
Movement and Capture Rules:
- White begins the game
- Checkers move only on dark squares
- Capturing is compulsory when available
- Checkers may capture forward and backward
- Kings move and capture across any diagonal square
- Turkish strike rule applies (each opponent checker may be taken once per move)
- Majority rule: when multiple capture paths exist, the one capturing the most checkers must be chosen
- A regular checker that reaches the opponent's edge during a capture sequence continues capturing as a normal checker (does not crown immediately)
- A checker that reaches the opponent's edge via a non-capturing move or ends its capture sequence there becomes a king and stops, gaining king abilities on subsequent turns
