Unveiling the Hidden Treasures: Where to Locate Beast Hide in NieR: Automata

NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, allowing players to experiment with various loadouts across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon boasts multiple upgrade levels, extending their usefulness and making it feasible to utilize a favorite weapon throughout the entire game.

Weapon upgrades are performed at the Resistance Camp, requiring specific resources. One crucial material, Beast Hides, isn't readily available; here's a guide to efficient acquisition.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures appear randomly in designated map areas, generally avoiding both the player and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. Farming wildlife is less straightforward than farming machines due to their less frequent spawns; strategic searching is key.

Moose and boar are exclusively found in the game's ruined city and forest zones. Their behavior (flight or attack) depends on the player's level relative to theirs; higher-level animals may become aggressive even at a distance. Wildlife also possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, especially against similarly or higher-leveled creatures.

Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunting process.

Since wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main storyline, hunting requires exploration and searching for new spawns. Respawn mechanics for wildlife and machines are similar:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a sufficient distance away respawns creatures in previously visited areas.
  • Story progression can trigger the respawn of nearby enemies and wildlife.

There's no guaranteed, easy method for farming Beast Hides. Consistently eliminating wildlife encountered while exploring forest and city ruins usually provides a sufficient supply. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, preventing the need for excessive stockpiling beyond immediate weapon upgrade needs.
