Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, confirms that Hollow Knight: Silksong is still under active development and will eventually be released. This follows recent speculation fueled by a cake-related profile picture change by a co-creator, which proved to be unrelated to any Silksong news.
Official Confirmation
Griffin's statement on X (formerly Twitter) directly addresses fan concerns, assuring players that the game's development is ongoing and a release is planned. This marks the first official update in over a year and a half, providing much-needed reassurance to the dedicated fanbase.
The initial speculation, sparked by a seemingly cryptic profile picture change, led to widespread rumors of an ARG or a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement. However, Griffin clarified that the cake image was simply a harmless change, dispelling those theories.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
Announced in February 2019 with an initial release window of early 2023, Silksong was delayed in May 2023 due to the game's expanded scope and the developers' commitment to quality. The delay, now nearing two years, has understandably led to some fan impatience. While the confirmation is welcome news, the lack of a concrete release date continues to fuel discussion and anticipation. The game promises a new kingdom, nearly 150 new enemies, and a challenging new "Silk Soul" difficulty mode.
The announcement has elicited mixed reactions. While some fans express relief and support for the developers, others remain frustrated by the extended wait and the perceived lack of substantial updates.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game follows Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey to the kingdom's peak. While a release date remains unannounced, further updates are expected.
