Ratatan, the eagerly anticipated spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has just unveiled its official gameplay trailer, offering fans an exciting glimpse into its world. This trailer, showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, was released by Ratatan Works, the game's developer, and it's packed with features and mechanics that echo the charm of its predecessor.

Trailer Highlights Gameplay and Boss Battle

The gameplay trailer dives straight into the action, featuring a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab. It showcases Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, seamlessly integrating rhythm game elements with side-scrolling action. One of the standout features is the online co-op mode, which supports up to 4 players, allowing for a dynamic and cooperative gaming experience. Additionally, players can command up to 100 characters in massive melee battles, adding depth and excitement to the gameplay.

Ratatan is being crafted by none other than Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and features music by the original Patapon composer, Kemmei Adachi. The game's Kickstarter campaign, which kicked off in 2023, has successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring that Ratatan will be available on various gaming platforms.

Closed Beta Scheduled for February 27, 2025

Ratatan Gameplay Trailer Reveals 4 Person Online Co-Op

In an exciting update from their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is set to launch its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the game's producer, shared insights into the upcoming milestones and events. The game has already surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, it won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team is focusing on perfecting the closed beta experience. They aim to deliver an enhanced demo version for the Steam Next festival in June.

During the closed beta, players can expect to play through Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the month-long test period. Sakajiri also noted that details regarding the distribution of codes, start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once confirmed.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build as fans eagerly await more updates on this promising title.
