Marvel Snap's avian additions are few and far between, limited to Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey—until now. Redwing, Falcon's loyal companion, joins the roster as part of the Brave New World season.
Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time this card is moved, add a card from your hand to its previous location.
However, there are limitations: Redwing's ability is a one-time use, unaffected by cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or attempts to replay it. Precise card targeting with Redwing proves challenging. Move decks often utilize low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that are undesirable targets, while Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards rather than their own.
Despite these limitations, affordable move options exist for players with lower Collection Levels, such as Madame Web or Cloak. Redwing's potential for surprise victories lies in strategically deploying high-impact cards like Galactus early or drawing powerful cards like The Infinaut.
Optimal Redwing Decks (Day One)
Ares and Surtur, dominant in the previous season, return in a Scream-based deck augmented by Aero and Heimdall. Redwing surprisingly integrates well, though generally outshined by Surtur on turn 3. This deck includes:
- Hydra Bob, Scream, Kraven, Captain America, Redwing, Polaris, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, Aero, Heimdall, Magneto
This high-cost deck (featuring multiple Series 5 cards) aims to deploy Surtur on turn 3, followed by high-power cards to boost Surtur's power. Scream provides an alternative win condition by stealing power. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto offer "push" capabilities, while Redwing can be moved into Heimdall to buff Surtur and draw a powerful card.
Another potential deck incorporating Redwing utilizes Madame Web, given the reduced viability of move-based decks post-Dagger nerf:
- Ant-Man, Madame Web, Psylocke, Sam Wilson, Captain America, Luke Cage, Captain America, Redwing, Doom 2099, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum
This deck features two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. While Madame Web isn't strictly necessary, removing her necessitates Redwing's removal for another Ongoing card like Mobius M. Mobius. The primary strategy revolves around deploying Doom 2099 to spread power across locations, with Madame Web assisting in power manipulation and providing an additional method for moving Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing's activation is limited to being moved by Madame Web. Doctor Doom or Spectrum are typically played on turn 6 for a final power surge.
Is Redwing Worth the Investment?
Currently, no. Redwing's power level is low, and its archetype is similarly underpowered. Saving resources for future cards is recommended unless significant buffs are implemented by Second Dinner.
