Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's December launch, players have customized characters with mods, transforming Iron Man into Dragon Ball's Vegeta, Mantis into a goth, and even Jeff the Land Shark into Chainsaw Man's Pochita.
Last week's Season 1 update, introducing the Fantastic Four, included a hidden mod restriction—asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated its terms of service prohibiting mods, cheats, bots, and unauthorized third-party software, warning players of potential bans. Despite this, a workaround is circulating, requiring more steps but enabling modding on PC.
Modder Prafit, sharing their workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users, stating the method circumvents anti-modding measures and carries an unknown risk of bans, although permanent bans haven't been reported yet.
New mods featuring the Fantastic Four have already emerged, such as Ercuallo's mod transforming Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy—downloaded over 5,000 times in just two days.

The uncertainty remains: will NetEase ban players? While no confirmed bans exist yet, the workaround might prompt further action. NetEase likely aims to prevent bans due to potential revenue loss from skin sales, intellectual property concerns, gameplay imbalances, and potential performance issues. Prafit notes that their workaround is best suited for high-performance PCs.
