Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has consistently shattered its concurrent player record on Steam since its launch. This article delves into the game's remarkable success and its planned future updates.
A Triumphant Opening Weekend
250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players and Climbing
As of February 9th, 2025, KCD2 boasted over 250,000 concurrent Steam players. Creative Director Daniel Vávra announced a peak of 256,206 concurrent players on Twitter (X). Each day from February 4th to 9th witnessed a new record:
- February 4th - 159,351 concurrent players
- February 5th - 176,285 concurrent players
- February 6th - 185,582 concurrent players
- February 7th - 190,194 concurrent players
- February 8th - 233,586 concurrent players
- February 9th - 256,206 concurrent players
Estimates suggest nearly 890,000 Steam sales alone. Currently, KCD2 holds the #2 spot on Steam's top-selling games list (behind Counter-Strike 2) and #5 on the most-played list (behind CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana). With 1 million copies sold on launch, KCD2 is potentially nearing 2 million total sales.
Meticulous Detail and Immersive Gameplay

Warhorse Studios' dedication to detail is a key factor in KCD2's success. Building upon the series' reputation for realism (perishable food, soiled clothing, sword maintenance, etc.), KCD2 introduces new elements for a truly immersive 15th-century experience.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic involving accumulating grime and body odor, eventually leading to a detectable "smell" debuff. The inclusion of "handgonnes," historically accurate early firearms with their inherent limitations (inaccuracy, long reload times, safety concerns), adds another layer of authenticity, even if intended as a somewhat humorous element.
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized the game's commitment to authenticity over hyper-accuracy, aiming for an engaging and enjoyable experience rooted in plausible historical details.
A Robust Post-Launch Plan

Warhorse Studios has outlined a post-launch roadmap featuring free updates and paid DLC throughout 2025. Free updates include a barber feature, hardcore mode, and horse racing (Spring 2025 release). Paid DLC will launch throughout the year, starting with "Brushes with Death" (Summer), "Legacy of the Forge" (Autumn), and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" (Winter).
KCD2's impressive opening weekend performance positions it for continued success, fueled by these updates and DLC, potentially leading to even more record-breaking achievements.
