The new update for Fallout 76 allows players to explore Appalachia as a Ghoul. Announced on March 18 via Bethesda's official website, Season 20, aptly named "The Ghoul Within," is now live. This update introduces the Ghoulification process, accessible through the "Leap of Faith" questline, which leads players to a previously unexplored part of the Savage Divide. Here, players meet new characters who aid in their transformation into Ghouls.
Upon becoming a Ghoul, players unlock unique abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 exclusive Ghoul Perks, or "Gherks." The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive different boosts. However, if the meter drops to 0%, gameplay dynamics shift dramatically: players gain a 150% increase in Melee Damage but suffer significant penalties including -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and a -300% reduction in both Hip-fire Gun and V.A.T.S. Accuracy.
On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and causing them to emit a visible glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals existing damage but also enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive Perks. Players have 28 Gherks to choose from, plus two new legendary perks, though traditional perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls.

Navigating the radiation-filled wasteland as a Ghoul offers distinct advantages thanks to the array of Gherks and abilities at your disposal. However, this transformation comes with its challenges; factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially locking you out of certain questlines.
To mitigate these issues, players can interact with a new NPC, Jaye, who provides disguises to access content otherwise barred due to their Ghoul status. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, reverting to human form is possible through the Character Screen, though this is a one-time decision. To transform back into a Ghoul, players must purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
New and returning players can accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, now available with the Season 20 update. For 1500 Atoms, this boost provides various perks and advantages, enabling quick access to multiplayer features such as Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.
Alongside the character boost, the Season 20 patch includes numerous bug fixes, balance tweaks, accessibility improvements, combat adjustments, and weapon damage modifications.
