Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative game, first hinted at in 2018, is finally taking shape at Gallium Studio.
A Deep Dive into Personal Memories
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, provided a fascinating glimpse into Proxi's core mechanics. Wright explained that Proxi is an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their recollections using in-game assets.
Each added memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and contributes to the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands, it populates with Proxies—representations of the player's friends and family—creating a personalized and evolving virtual landscape.
Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, reflecting the context and individuals involved. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox, bridging the gap between personal memories and existing gaming ecosystems.
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on creating "magical connections with memories and bringing them to life." This personal approach, he explained, stems from a belief that "no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." The more the game centers on the player's experiences, the more engaging it becomes.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
