Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation featuring four classic and modern Doom titles, may be making a comeback on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The collection, which was delisted in 2024, has recently received ESRB ratings for these platforms, hinting at a potential re-release. The ESRB ratings notably exclude the Nintendo Switch and last-generation consoles, suggesting the collection's return will be limited to current-gen systems.

The 2019 release of the Doom Slayers Collection, originally available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, included remastered versions of Doom, Doom II, Doom III, and the 2016 reboot. This compilation's significance stems from the original Doom's groundbreaking impact on the first-person shooter genre in 1993, establishing features like 3D graphics, multiplayer, and mod support.

The ESRB ratings aren't the only indication of a potential return. The recent ESRB rating for Doom 64 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S further strengthens this speculation, as the physical edition of the Doom Slayers Collection included a Doom 64 download code. This pattern aligns with Bethesda's past practice of re-releasing titles digitally after initial delistings, as seen with the Doom + Doom II combined package. It also mirrors id Software's history of porting its games to newer consoles, as demonstrated by the Quake II port.

Games Included in the Doom Slayers Collection:

  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom III
  • Doom (2016)

Beyond the potential return of the Doom Slayers Collection, fans can anticipate the arrival of Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel set in a medieval setting. This new installment is slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025.
