Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid is crucial. While finding a safe haven is relatively straightforward, protecting it from the undead hordes is a different beast altogether. This guide details how to build effective barricades, focusing on the essential method of boarding up windows.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To effectively barricade your windows, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these supplies, simply right-click on the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for increased protection.
Hammers and nails are typically found in locations like toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are most commonly located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items as needed.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry attempts. The more planks you install, the more time it will take for the undead to breach your defenses. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
It's important to remember that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) cannot be used as effective window barricades; characters and zombies will pass right through them.
While larger, more robust barricades can be crafted using metal bars or sheets, these require sufficient Metalworking skill.
